Jharsuguda: The police in Jharsuguda district have reportedly dismantled an IPL betting operation, arresting eight individuals involved in the scheme and confiscating cash exceeding Rs 5 lakh.
Acting on a tip-off regarding the illegal betting activities, two teams from Brajrajnagar police executed separate raids in rented properties located in the Gandhi Chhaka and Rampur areas.
During the operation, law enforcement officials apprehended eight suspects and recovered more than Rs 5 lakh in cash from them. Additionally, Rs 3.7 lakh has been frozen in various bank accounts linked to the accused. The police also seized two laptops, 41 mobile phones, and two cars during the raids.
Investigations are ongoing as authorities seek to identify the mastermind behind the IPL betting operation.
Notably, this crackdown on the betting racket occurred just before the Qualifier 1 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.
