A woman fell unconscious inside the Jagannath temple premises amid the huge rush and high heat conditions on Sunday.
The temple saw a significant influx of devotees, as it was a holiday, with many lining up inside the barricade before the doors opened. The woman collapsed while standing in the queue.
Police on duty quickly transported her to a hospital via ambulance. After receiving treatment, she has recovered and her condition is stable.
Meanwhile, western Odisha is experiencing an intense heatwave, with unbearable humidity affecting coastal residents. On Sunday, Jharsuguda recorded a temperature of 41.2 degrees Celsius by 11:30 AM, while Sambalpur reached 40.8 degrees and Hirakud recorded 40.4 degrees. Bhubaneswar’s temperature hit 36.4 degrees.
This heatwave is expected to persist for another 2 to 3 days, with a potential break after May 27.
