President Droupadi Murmu Launches ₹158 Crore Development Projects in Rourkela

During her visit to Rourkela on Tuesday, President of India Droupadi Murmu inaugurated multiple development projects valued at ₹158 crore, marking a crucial advancement in strengthening the region’s infrastructure, culture, and education.

The President arrived at Rourkela Airport at 10:55 AM, where she received a warm welcome from Hari Babu Kambhampati and Mohan Charan Majhi. She then traveled to the city via a special helicopter, with extensive preparations made for her arrival.

Residents, particularly children, gathered in large numbers, expressing their excitement at meeting the nation’s first citizen.

Key Projects Inaugurated

During her visit, President Murmu inaugurated several key projects aimed at enhancing urban infrastructure and cultural heritage, including:

  • Tribal Museum promoting indigenous culture
  • Command and Control Centre for urban management
  • Koyel Nagar Recreation Park for community engagement
  • Nirmal Munda Entrance Gateway as a tribute to regional legacy
  • Science Centre and Planetarium to encourage scientific learning

These projects are anticipated to significantly contribute to education, tourism, and civic development in Rourkela.

Celebration of Tribal Culture

The visit also showcased Odisha’s rich cultural heritage. The President appreciated traditional tribal dance performances such as Santala, Munda, and Karma dances. She interacted warmly with performers and children, making the occasion memorable for many attendees.

A young participant described the experience as a “dream come true,” reflecting the emotional significance of the interaction.

Tight Security Arrangements

To ensure a smooth and secure visit, authorities deployed over 45 platoons of security personnel along with more than 200 officers. The comprehensive arrangements ensured safety while allowing the public to participate in the event.

Visit Concludes with Continued Engagements

After completing her engagements in Rourkela, the President proceeded to Jharsuguda before returning to New Delhi.
