A video, approximately 9 seconds long, has gone viral on social media, purportedly showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a convoy during a roadshow. In the background, a voice is heard expressing frustration over the lack of cooking gas: “Gas nahi hai sir, kya karenge humlog?” (There is no gas, sir, what shall we do?).
Twitter user @KhelaHobePart2 shared the clip, asserting that it depicted a bystander in Rourkela calling out the Prime Minister regarding the LPG shortage, which amused onlookers. This claim also circulated widely on Instagram.
Kal Tak (@kaltakdigital.in), a news outlet, posted the clip on April 1, and it had garnered over 4 million views at the time of this report.
Upon closer inspection, the security personnel in the video appeared significantly different from those typically seen with Prime Minister Modi during public events. To verify the video’s authenticity, we analyzed it frame by frame.
A reverse image search led us to an Instagram reel revealing that the incident took place in Rourkela, Odisha, featuring a lookalike of PM Modi. Further geolocation efforts confirmed that the video was indeed filmed in Rourkela.
Subsequent keyword searches uncovered a YouTube video from Odisha-based Kalinga TV, uploaded on September 27, 2025, featuring a man named Sadananda Naik, who was interviewed for his striking resemblance to Narendra Modi.
Another Instagram reel with Mr. Naik revealed that he began grooming his beard around 2017 after friends noted his likeness to the Prime Minister. Additionally, it was established that PM Modi last visited Odisha on September 27, 2025, for the inauguration of several projects in Jharsuguda, the same location where Mr. Naik was interviewed.
In conclusion, the individual seen in the roadshow in Rourkela was not Prime Minister Modi but rather his lookalike, Sadananda Naik, who has previously received media attention for his resemblance to the Prime Minister.
