Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested Anit Kumar Guru, Section Officer in the office of the Chief District Medical and Public Health Officer (CDM & PHO), Jharsuguda, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2,500.
According to an official press release, Guru allegedly requested the bribe from a teacher of a GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) Training School in the district to process an application that would allow students to undertake practical training at PHC/CHC facilities for the 2026-27 academic session.
The complainant claimed that the accused had been persistently harassing nursing institutions in the district by demanding illegal payments for processing such applications. Acting on a recent demand, the teacher alerted vigilance authorities.
After verification, a Vigilance team set a trap and caught Guru red-handed while accepting Rs 2,500 from the complainant. The entire tainted amount was recovered and seized from his possession.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations associated with the accused on allegations of disproportionate assets (DA).
In connection with this case, Rourkela Vigilance Police Station Case No. 02, dated 22.04.2026, has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. An investigation is currently underway.
