BHUBANESWAR: Police on Sunday apprehended a 51-year-old man for allegedly impersonating the son of late Congress leader and former Lok Sabha member Krupasindhu Bhoi, cheating investors of more than Rs 3 crore with promises of high returns.
The suspect, Sachidananda Bhoi from Bargarh district, was residing in the Phulnakhara area. According to police reports, Bhoi established a company named ‘Go Speedy Go’ in the last quarter of 2025, aimed at offering vehicle repair services at customers’ doorsteps. He opened an office in the Patia area, along with additional branches in Khandagiri and Kotinda in Ganjam district. However, he deceived investors and shut down the office within just two months.
Zone VI ACP, Manas Ranjan Pradhan, stated that Bhoi had collected between Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 2 lakh from approximately 200 to 250 individuals under the guise of investing their money in his company for higher returns.
“However, he later closed the office and fled. A duped investor lodged a complaint against him at Infocity police station, leading to a case being registered and Bhoi’s capture while he was hiding in Darjeeling. He is also accused of failing to pay his staff salaries totaling around Rs 63 lakh,” Pradhan said.
Further investigations revealed that Bhoi has a criminal history, having been previously charged in three cases by Saheed Nagar police, and one case each by Pahala police, the Special Crime Unit, and CID-CB. Additionally, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Jharsuguda had registered a case against him, and a non-bailable warrant is pending in this matter.
“The financial trail of the culprit will be examined. Further investigation is underway,” said the ACP.
