Dr. Kiran Bedi Visits Vedanta Jharsuguda, Inspires Employees and Women Community Leaders

On March 21, 2026, Vedanta Aluminium, the largest aluminium producer in India, welcomed Dr. Kiran Bedi to its Jharsuguda facility. A well-known advocate for public reform and social justice, Dr. Bedi spoke at a special town hall meeting that followed the company’s Women’s Day 2026 celebrations, engaging over 1,000 attendees. She shared insights from her extensive experience in public leadership, stressing that supporting inclusivity and equity can lead to transformative opportunities.

Dr. Kiran Bedi is recognized for numerous accomplishments, including being India’s first female IPS officer and the first woman to serve as a UN Civilian Police Adviser. She has also held the position of Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry and is a recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award for her significant contributions to policing and prison reform in India, earning her international recognition.

During the interactive town hall at Vedanta’s Jharsuguda site, Dr. Bedi emphasized the need for individuals to have a clear life purpose, maintain integrity, and understand that workplace choices have broader implications. The event attracted employees, business partners, families, and community members, both in person and online.

Dr. Kiran Bedi remarked, “Vedanta Limited is a diamond of this country, and the nation needs more institutions that use resources responsibly and drive growth with purpose. Stay committed to learning, lead with empathy, and connect with people by listening and understanding before correcting. A stronger workforce needs more women, who bring a steady mindset, empathy, and the drive to deliver. Do not work for awards. Work with purpose, take ownership, and build a sense of belonging. Recognition will follow meaningful work.”

Ms. Priya Agarwal Hebbar, Non-Executive Director of Vedanta Limited and Chairperson of Hindustan Zinc Limited, added, “Today, women make up over 23% of our team at Vedanta. We are also proud to be the first company in India to operate an all-women potline. Mr. C Chandru, CEO of Vedanta Jharsuguda, highlighted the significance of Dr. Bedi’s visit, stating, “As the first aluminium plant in India to operate an all-women potline, and the first in Odisha to enable women to work night shifts, we are committed to ensuring equal opportunities for all our employees. Dr. Bedi’s visit also included interactions with members of Project Subhalaxmi, the largest Self-Help Group cooperative in Western Odisha, a community development initiative by Vedanta. She presented offer letters to several specially-abled professionals set to join Vedanta’s plant operations in various roles. Additionally, she toured Vedanta Jharsuguda’s aluminium manufacturing facilities, where she met women professionals, including members of India’s first all-women potline, Odisha’s first all-women power operations, and Vedanta’s all-women locomotive team.
