Odisha has identified land for a new Rs 200 crore IT project in Sambalpur. The proposed IT Tower, IT Park, and AI Center of Excellence at VSSUT are set to transform Western Odisha’s tech landscape and job market in the coming years.
The Odisha government has completed the land identification process for the IT hub. Vishal Kumar Dev, the Principal Secretary of Electronics and IT, visited the site to review the location and structural plans for the upcoming IT Park and IT Tower. This initiative is part of a broader effort by the state to establish technology centers in smaller cities such as Rourkela, Jharsuguda, and Berhampur.
The project will provide ready-to-use office spaces, creating a “plug-and-play” environment for both large multinationals and local startups. The state has allocated approximately Rs 200 crore for the construction of the IT Tower and the surrounding park infrastructure. Officials anticipate that the new hub will significantly boost the local economy and stimulate growth among small supporting businesses. Interest in real estate along the Burla-Sambalpur corridor has already increased.
To maximize the project’s potential, the government is collaborating with local institutions like VSSUT (Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology) and IIM Sambalpur. They are planning to establish a Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence at VSSUT, focusing on research and advanced training. Additionally, the IT department is in discussions with Zoho to develop new skill-building programs aimed at helping local graduates secure better employment.
