IMD Issues Warning for Fishermen to Remain Ashore Due to Squally Weather in Odisha

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for fishermen, advising them not to venture into the sea along and off the North Odisha Coast on March 21 due to squally weather.

According to IMD predictions, wind speeds are anticipated to reach 40-50 kmph, with gusts up to 60 kmph, resulting in rough to very rough sea conditions.

Additionally, the IMD has issued orange and yellow warnings for several districts in Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, hail, and gusty winds until March 26.

For March 21, the IMD predicts: “Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and hail along with gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching up to 50-60 kmph) is likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sundergarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Sambalpur.” An orange alert has been issued for these districts.

Furthermore, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Nabarangapur, Koraput, and Malkangiri have received yellow warnings, indicating that these areas may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds (wind speeds reaching up to 30-40 kmph).
