Bhubaneswar: The summer season in India is proving to be unbearable this year, with several states, including Odisha, feeling the heat. Many Indian cities are currently among the hottest in the world.

Earlier this week, on April 22, Jharsuguda recorded the highest temperature in the country at 44.6 degrees Celsius. Presently, a significant portion of the country is under a heatwave, with some areas reporting temperatures between 44°C and 45°C.

Nevertheless, relief may be on the horizon as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted strong nor’wester rain activity this week. This change in weather is expected to provide much-needed respite to residents.

IMD officials indicated that the nor’wester rain activity is anticipated to peak between Tuesday and Thursday, attributing the expected thundershowers to an increase in southerly winds carrying moisture from the Bay of Bengal.

The regional meteorological office stated that there would be no significant change in maximum daytime temperatures over the next two days, but a decrease of 2°C to 4°C is likely thereafter across the state.
