Bhubaneswar Records Hottest Temperature in Odisha at 38.2 Degrees Celsius Amid Weather Alerts

Bhubaneswar: The capital of Odisha became the hottest place in the state on Friday afternoon, with a recorded temperature of 38.2 degrees Celsius by 2.30 pm. This increase in temperature has caused discomfort among residents, with hot and humid conditions affecting various parts of the state. Other locations such as Balasore (37.8 degrees Celsius), Chandbali (37.4 degrees Celsius), and Sambalpur (36.4 degrees Celsius) also reported high temperatures by the afternoon.

This situation coincides with the India Meteorological Department’s forecast for an early onset of the southwest monsoon, expected to reach Kerala by May 26, with a model error margin of ± 4 days.

While Odisha has been experiencing a gradual increase in daytime temperatures, with some areas in the western and interior districts exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in recent days, no heatwave warnings have been issued for the state. Instead, the weather agency has alerted residents about the likelihood of thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (50-60 km/h), expected in the afternoon and evening hours in districts such as Keonjhar, Angul, and Dhenkanal on May 15.

Similar weather conditions, with wind speeds of 40-50 km/h, are anticipated in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Sambalpur, and Mayurbhanj.

Additionally, a warning for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 km/h) has been issued for one or two locations in the Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri districts.

Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are also likely at several places, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and at one or two locations in Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Nabarangpur.
