Bhubaneswar: Daytime temperatures in many regions of Odisha are expected to rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next 6 to 7 days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The regional weather office has noted that a low-pressure area formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal is unlikely to develop into a depression. However, it may evolve into a well-marked low-pressure system within the next 48 hours, although the likelihood of it becoming a depression remains minimal.
Despite this, the weather department forecasts a gradual increase in temperatures across the state. On Tuesday, western Odisha experienced extreme heat, with Titlagarh recording the highest maximum temperature of 40°C, followed by Sambalpur at 39.9°C, Jharsuguda at 39.2°C, and Bhawanipatna at 39°C.
The IMD predicts that on Wednesday and Thursday, most areas in western Odisha are likely to see temperatures around 40°C. Coastal regions will be relatively cooler, with maximum temperatures ranging from 35°C to 38°C. On May 15 and 16, western and interior districts of Odisha may reach a scorching 41°C, while temperatures in coastal and southern Odisha are expected to remain below 40°C.
Conversely, several areas in northern Odisha may experience thunderstorms accompanied by rain until May 16. Residents, particularly in western and interior regions, have been advised to take necessary precautions against the rising heat, stay hydrated, and avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.
