Odisha Endures Extreme Heat as Temperatures Exceed 40°C in Several Areas

Bhubaneswar: Odisha continued to endure intense summer heat on Wednesday, with day temperatures exceeding the 40-degree Celsius mark in several areas of the western and northern regions of the state.

According to the India Meteorological Department, Titlagarh recorded the highest maximum temperature at 40.5 degrees Celsius, followed by Bolangir at 40.2 degrees, Sambalpur at 40.1 degrees, Bhawanipatna at 40.0 degrees, and Jharsuguda at 39.8 degrees Celsius.

The state capital, Bhubaneswar, registered a temperature of 37.3 degrees Celsius, while Cuttack experienced 36 degrees Celsius. The IMD has issued a Yellow Warning for Thursday, predicting thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds in the afternoon and evening.

Thunderstorms with lightning and wind speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely in one or two locations over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Kendrapara districts.

Additionally, thunderstorms with lightning and wind speeds of 30-40 kmph are expected in one or two places over Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts.

Residents have been advised to stay vigilant regarding the risk of lightning, strong winds, and sudden rainfall. While the heat is expected to persist in western Odisha, thunderstorm activity may provide some relief in coastal and northern districts.
