Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nowcast warning for four districts in Odisha until approximately 6 pm on Wednesday.
Moderate thunderstorms, rain, lightning, and hail with wind speeds of 40-50 kmph may occur in Angul, Deogarh, Cuttack, and Nayagarh over the next three hours.
The midday bulletin has also cautioned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds (30-40 kmph) in the afternoon and evening hours at one or two locations in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Khurda districts.
Hot and humid conditions may also prevail in isolated areas of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
Warnings for similar thunderstorms and sultry weather will continue across the state until April 21. A heatwave is expected to return from April 17, with warnings issued for Balangir, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Angul, Bargarh, Deogarh, Boudh, and Kandhamal until April 19.
The MeT office has also forecast a gradual rise in day temperatures by 2-4°C over the next two days. There will be no significant change during the following two days, after which temperatures may rise further by 2-3°C across the state.
