Scattered Rain and Thunderstorms Expected Across Odisha in the Coming Days

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department’s Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has forecast light to moderate rain or thunderstorms at isolated locations across several districts of Odisha over the next five days, while maximum temperatures are anticipated to increase by 4-5°C in the next 48 hours.

In its midday weather bulletin released at 2 pm IST today, the IMD reported that no significant synoptic system is currently influencing the region. Light to moderate rainfall was noted at one or two locations in Mayurbhanj and Kandhamal districts over the past 24 hours, while the remainder of Odisha remained dry. The highest recorded rainfall included 2 cm each at Kalinga and Tikabali in Kandhamal, 1 cm at Khajuripada (Kandhamal), and 1 cm at Kaptipada (Mayurbhanj).

Maximum temperatures experienced a significant drop of 4-10°C in many areas of north interior Odisha, remaining markedly below normal by 6-10°C in interior districts. The highest temperature recorded was 37.5°C at Nuapada. Minimum temperatures were also below normal in parts of north interior Odisha, with the lowest minimum of 18.0°C noted at Phulbani.

Five-day outlook:

  • Day 1 (valid until 0830 hrs IST April 2): Light to moderate rain/thunderstorms are very likely at one or two locations in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Koraput, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal.
  • Days 2 & 3: Rain/thunderstorms confined to isolated areas in Malkangiri and Koraput.
  • Day 4: Rain is likely over Malkangiri, Koraput, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Rayagada.
  • Day 5: Rain/thundershowers expected over coastal Odisha and several interior districts including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh.

A Yellow Warning (Be Aware) has been issued for all five days.

Hot and humid conditions are likely at one or two locations in Puri, Ganjam, and Gajapati. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds (30-40 km/h) are expected during the afternoon/evening hours at isolated locations across multiple districts including Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, and others, depending on the day.

Maximum temperatures are projected to rise by 4-5°C over the next two days, remain steady for the subsequent two days, and then decrease by 2-3°C thereafter.

Bhubaneswar forecast (next 24 hours): A partly cloudy sky with a possibility of thunderstorms or lightning. Maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 37°C and 24°C respectively.

No weather warnings have been issued for fishermen along the Odisha coast for the next five days.
