Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for severe weather activity over several parts of Odisha on Thursday.
According to the forecast for tomorrow, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty surface winds reaching 50-60 kmph, and hail are very likely to occur at one or two locations in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Keonjhar during the afternoon or evening hours. These districts have been placed under an orange alert.
In addition, thunderstorms with lightning, gusty surface winds (up to 50-60 kmph), and heavy rainfall are expected at one or two places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, and Keonjhar. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (up to 40-50 kmph) along with heavy rainfall are also likely at one or two locations in Cuttack.
Furthermore, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (up to 40-50 kmph) are anticipated in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places across the districts of Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati. These areas have been issued a yellow warning for tomorrow.
On April 10, thunderstorms with gusty winds (up to 40-50 kmph) are expected mainly over northern and coastal districts such as Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur.
On Day 3, similar weather activity is likely over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.
No major weather warnings have been issued for Day 4. However, from Day 5 to Day 7 (April 12 to 15), hot and humid conditions are expected to prevail in one or two places across Odisha.
The IMD has advised residents, particularly in the northern and coastal districts, to remain vigilant during the afternoon and evening hours. Farmers, outdoor workers, and travelers are urged to take necessary precautions against lightning, strong winds, hail, and sudden heavy rainfall. Motorists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during intense thunderstorm conditions.
