Bhubaneswar: The evening weather bulletin from the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Bhubaneswar center on Thursday noted increasing daytime temperatures across various regions of Odisha, especially in the western and southern districts, while coastal areas experienced relatively cooler conditions.

According to the bulletin, Boudh recorded the highest maximum temperature of 38.9°C, closely followed by Bolangir and Bhawanipatna, both at 38.0°C. Other interior locations that surpassed the 37°C threshold included Titlagarh (37.5°C), Paralakhemundi (37.6°C), Nuapada (37.8°C), Sambalpur (36.8°C), Dhenkanal (36.8°C), and Jharsuguda (35.7°C).

The state capital, Bhubaneswar, reported a maximum of 34.7°C, while Cuttack recorded 33.4°C. Coastal stations such as Puri (35.1°C), Gopalpur, and Paradip remained relatively moderate. Several areas in northern and central Odisha, including Balasore (28.8°C) and Bhadrak (30.5°C), experienced significantly lower daytime temperatures.

Minimum temperatures ranged from 19°C to 25°C across most stations, offering some nighttime relief. Relative humidity was high, particularly in coastal regions, often exceeding 80% at 0830 IST, leading to muggy conditions.

Rainfall was limited, with significant precipitation reported only in isolated areas: Paradip recorded 27.3 mm, Bhubaneswar 10.2 mm, and other stations like Jagatsinghpur (4.4 mm) and Khordha (7.0 mm) received light to moderate rain during the day. Most interior districts remained dry.

The temperature trend indicates a gradual increase in heat in the western and southern parts of the state, typical of the pre-monsoon season transition. The IMD is closely monitoring the situation, and additional bulletins are anticipated as maximum temperatures continue to remain in the mid-to-high 30s across many districts.

Residents in interior Odisha have been urged to take necessary precautions against the rising heat, stay hydrated, and avoid direct sun exposure during peak afternoon hours.
