Heatwave Escalates in Odisha, Titilagarh Reaches 42°C

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is facing a worsening heatwave, with Titilagarh emerging as the hottest location in the state, registering a temperature of 42.0° Celsius on Wednesday.

According to the evening weather bulletin from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), at least six locations in the state recorded maximum temperatures of 40°C or higher.

  • Sambalpur, Hirakud, and Balangir all reached 41.0°C.
  • Jharsuguda recorded a temperature of 41.6°C.
  • Talcher and Bhawanipatna noted 40.8°C.
  • Boudh recorded a high of 40.0°C.

In the coastal areas, temperatures remained above normal but were relatively lower, with Chandbali at 37.7°C, Cuttack at 36.0°C, Bhubaneswar at 35.9°C, and Balasore at 36.3°C.

High humidity levels in several regions have increased discomfort, with Boudh reporting 96% relative humidity in the morning. Coastal and southern areas, including Gopalpur and Paralakhemundi, also experienced elevated moisture levels.

The weather office has forecasted that dry conditions are likely to persist, with heatwave conditions expected to continue in various parts of the state.
