Bhubaneswar: The temperature in Odisha’s industrial town Jharsuguda climbed to 41°C by 11:30 AM on Tuesday, with Sambalpur and Hirakud both reaching 40°C, highlighting the day’s intense heat from the outset.
According to a post from senior meteorologist Umasankar Das, temperatures also rose to 37.6°C in Bhubaneswar and 37°C in Rourkela, while Balasore and Chandbali recorded 35°C each.
This comes just a day after maximum temperatures surpassed the 40°C mark in 17 locations across the state. Jharsuguda was reported as the hottest spot in Odisha at 43.4°C, followed closely by Boudh at 42.8°C. Angul and Sambalpur each recorded 42.3°C, with Hirakud at 42°C, Baripada at 41.8°C, Nayagarh at 41.7°C, Talcher at 41.6°C, and Kirei in Sundargarh at 41.2°C. Bhawanipatna, Balangir, and Titlagarh also logged 41.5°C each. Other high temperatures were noted in Sonepur (40.8°C), Sundargarh (40.5°C), Bargarh (40.4°C), Balasore (40.2°C), and both Bhadrak and Chiplima at 40°C.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded temperatures of 39°C and 39.6°C respectively. Coastal regions were relatively cooler, with Puri at 35.4°C and Gopalpur at 33.6°C.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a further rise in daytime temperatures by 2-3°C across Odisha this week.
