Odisha Reports 3 Sunstroke Deaths Amid Extreme Heat

The Odisha government has confirmed three sunstroke deaths in the state, which continues to endure extreme heat.

According to the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), the fatalities were reported from Balangir, Sundargarh, and Sonepur districts. A total of 16 suspected heat-related deaths were examined, with three confirmed as caused by sunstroke. Four cases were ruled out after post-mortem examinations, while the remaining cases are under investigation by district authorities.

The entire state, particularly in the western region, is experiencing intense heat, with temperatures surpassing 43°C in many areas. Recently, the temperature in Jharsuguda reached 46 degrees Celsius.

The SRC has advised residents to avoid direct sun exposure between 11 am and 3 pm, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions. Schools in several districts have already adjusted their schedules or closed early due to the heatwave.
