Monsoon Expected to Cover Entire Odisha This Week

Bhubaneswar: The southwest monsoon has progressed further into Odisha, covering a major portion of the state, as reported in an IMD bulletin on Monday. An overcast sky accompanied by light to moderate rain and thundershowers has been observed in various locations throughout the state. Daytime temperatures have also decreased, remaining below 40 degrees Celsius across Odisha.

The IMD forecasts that conditions will be favorable for the monsoon to advance into the remaining parts of the state within the next two days. Additionally, daytime temperatures are expected to drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius during this period, the bulletin noted.

Sanjeev Dwivedi, a scientist at the IMD center in Bhubaneswar, stated that the monsoon is anticipated to cover the entire state of Odisha this week. Currently, only Nuapada, one of the 30 districts, has not yet been affected by the monsoon. Seven districts have been partially covered, while the remaining 22 districts have been fully covered.

Among the partially covered districts, significant monsoon advancement has been noted in Kalahandi, Sonepur, Sundargarh, as well as parts of Nabarangpur, Jharsuguda, Balangir, and Bargarh.

On Tuesday, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected to persist in many areas of the state, with heavy rainfall warnings issued for five districts: Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Gajapati. Additionally, warnings for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds will remain in effect for several districts on Tuesday.

On Monday, Titilagarh recorded the highest temperature in the state at 37.5°C, while Koraput experienced the most rainfall, measuring 28.5 mm. The city of Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 31.7°C and 1.5 mm of rainfall by 5:30 PM, according to the IMD rainfall report.
