A 30-year-old man, distressed by his dismissal from the Odisha State Armed Police (OSAP) constable position in 2020 due to medical reasons, climbed a mobile tower in Dhenkanal on Saturday morning. He threatened to take his own life unless he was reinstated and compensated with Rs 25 lakh by the state government.
Rudra Narayan Dash, a resident of Sogar village in Kamakhyanagar, was persuaded to come down from the tower around 8:30 PM after assurances from the district administration and police regarding a job offer. He was subsequently taken to the Dhenkanal district headquarters hospital for a medical examination.
Dash had been selected as a constable in the OSAP battalion in Dhenkanal in 2018 and began his service that same year. He was later transferred to Jharsuguda for training, but during this period, he reportedly fell ill and underwent a medical examination at Burla hospital, where he was declared unfit for duty. After returning to Dhenkanal, a medical board confirmed his unfitness, leading to his dismissal from service.
