Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police dismantled a significant illegal IPL betting network and arrested 18 individuals across various districts in a coordinated statewide operation. This crackdown resulted in the registration of four cases and the seizure of considerable cash, vehicles, and electronic devices allegedly utilized in the illegal activities.
According to the State police headquarters, police teams recovered Rs 36.85 lakh in cash during raids conducted in different districts. Additionally, Rs 39.42 lakh held in various bank accounts linked to betting activities has been frozen as part of the investigation.
Police also confiscated two cars and 13 mobile phones purportedly used for betting operations. Puri Police achieved a major breakthrough in the anti-betting initiative, arresting four individuals connected to a betting racket in the district. During the raid, police seized Rs 25.35 lakh in cash, froze Rs 31.81 lakh in bank accounts, and recovered six mobile phones from the suspects.
In Sundargarh district, police apprehended five individuals after uncovering another illegal betting network. This operation resulted in the seizure of Rs 6 lakh in cash, the identification of bank balances totaling Rs 17.61 lakh, and the recovery of five mobile phones. Jharsuguda Police arrested the highest number of suspects—eight individuals—during a raid on a major betting racket, seizing Rs 5 lakh in cash along with two cars allegedly involved in the illegal operation.
In a separate operation in southern Odisha, Berhampur Police arrested one individual engaged in IPL betting activities, recovering Rs 50,200 in cash and two mobile phones from the suspect. Odisha Police have intensified their statewide efforts against illegal betting and organized gambling networks, pledging to continue these operations to combat crime and uphold law and order throughout the State.
