Odisha: Man Arrested for Kidnapping and Raping Woman

ROURKELA: The Sundargarh Sadar police apprehended a 24-year-old man on Wednesday for the alleged kidnapping and repeated sexual assault of a woman.

The accused, Bharat Sandha, hails from the Naktideul area in Sambalpur district and was arrested in Jharsuguda district.

According to police reports, Sandha’s arrest followed a complaint filed by the 23-year-old survivor, a resident of Sundargarh, on Tuesday night.

Sadar IIC Soudamini Nag stated that the woman had been in contact with Sandha for the past three years. He allegedly convinced her to accompany him to Jharsuguda under the false pretense of marriage. Once in Jharsuguda, she was reportedly held captive in a house near the Bhusan plant.

During her captivity, the accused is said to have raped her for over eight days. Eventually, the survivor’s family located her in Jharsuguda while searching for her and managed to rescue her from the house.

The IIC confirmed that a case has been registered under sections 87, 64(2)(M), and 351(2) of BNS. Medical examinations of both the survivor and the accused were conducted. Sandha has been presented in court and remanded to judicial custody.
