On Tuesday, police discovered a mutilated body of a woman near the Old Bus Stand area in Jharsuguda town, raising suspicions of rape and murder. Local residents found the body early in the morning and promptly alerted the police. Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police Gundala Reddy Raghavendra and officers from the Town Police Station quickly arrived at the scene and began a preliminary investigation.
Since the location falls under railway jurisdiction, the Government Railway Police (GRP) subsequently took over the investigation. Authorities reported multiple injury marks on the woman’s body. The GRP has filed a case (41/26) and is conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
GRP Inspector-in-Charge Reshma Ekka indicated that initial findings suggest the woman may have been raped prior to her murder. The precise cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the incident will be determined following further investigation and the post-mortem report.
