In a violent incident in the Belpahar area of Odisha’s Jharsuguda district, a youth was killed and another was critically injured on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Rahul Mahat, while Akash Sahu sustained serious injuries. Both individuals were from the Junadihi area of Belpahar town.
Sources indicate that four unidentified assailants arrived in a car and approached the two friends, Rahul and Akash, in the afternoon at Junadihi. Before they could react, the group launched a brutal attack using a sharp weapon and then fled the scene. Local residents rushed to assist and alerted the Belpahar police.
The attack was so severe that Rahul died at the scene. Akash was promptly taken to a hospital in Lakhanpur, where he is currently fighting for his life.
Belpahar police have arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. Senior police officials, including the Brajarajnagar sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) and the Jharsuguda SP, have also visited the site of the crime.
