The state government of Odisha announced on Thursday that the Centre has approved projects exceeding Rs 769 crore under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) scheme for the fiscal year 2026-27. This approved package includes 10 major infrastructure initiatives that will benefit tribal, rural, and urban areas of the state.
Notably, it features strategic road upgrades in the districts of Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, and Balasore, along with the construction of two flyovers in Berhampur city to alleviate traffic congestion.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, stating that these projects will significantly enhance connectivity in remote and underserved regions, thereby improving access to healthcare, education, trade, and employment opportunities.
The largest allocation, nearly Rs 184.97 crore, is designated for the enhancement of the Jaleswar-Batagram-Chandaneswar road (SH-57) in Balasore district. Additionally, the two flyovers on NH-59 in Berhampur, Ganjam, represent an investment of over Rs 314 crore. One flyover will link Tata Benz Square to MKCG Medical College, while the other will connect Giri Road junction to the Old Bus Stand.
