Usha Padhee Reviews Key Development Projects and New Sambalpur City Plan

SAMBALPUR: Usha Padhee, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development department, conducted an extensive review on Thursday of key infrastructure and public welfare projects while discussing the city’s future expansion and planning.

During her visit to Sambalpur, Padhee engaged in detailed discussions regarding a proposed new city plan for Sambalpur, which spans over 800 acres and aims to accommodate future urban growth. The discussions also highlighted plans to develop around 2,000 affordable housing units at Pardhiapali and Thelkopada for economically weaker sections.

Padhee reviewed proposals related to fund allocation for the construction of a new bus terminal in Sambalpur and the first phase of the drainage master plan, which is estimated to cost Rs 38 crore and is currently in the tendering process. The second phase, estimated at Rs 163 crore, has been submitted for government approval.

Additionally, proposals for establishing a centralized waste processing plant to enhance solid waste management in the city and the construction of a large market complex at Budharaja were also discussed.

Padhee held a separate review with consultants regarding the proposed Sambalpur-Bargarh-Jharsuguda economic corridor, emphasizing its potential to boost regional industrial and economic growth.

Earlier in the day, she inspected major ongoing projects, including the Jamadarpali intake point and the Tipupada water treatment plant executed by WATCO. She also reviewed the restoration work of the Modipada tank undertaken by the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC).
