Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is considering the implementation of early summer vacations in response to the ongoing severe heatwave conditions affecting the state, according to Revenue and Disaster Management (R&DM) Minister Suresh Pujari.
During a press briefing today, Pujari mentioned that discussions regarding early summer vacations for schools and anganwadi centers took place between the Revenue Department and officials from the School and Mass Education Department, alongside the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC).
“I also had a conversation with the Chief Secretary (Anu Garg) and Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department (Arabinda Kumar Padhee) regarding the early summer holidays. Additionally, we have sought suggestions from all relevant officials. Furthermore, I met with the officials of the Higher Education Department,” he said.
The Minister added, “As temperatures have reached 44 degrees in areas like Jharsuguda, and with the exception of 3-4 districts where temperatures are between 34 and 35 degrees Celsius, the entire state is experiencing intense heatwave conditions. Therefore, we are considering early summer vacations.” He noted that the Chief Minister (Mohan Charan Majhi) and Special Relief Commissioner (Rajesh Prabhakar Pati) will make a final decision on this matter within a few days.
Pujari also clarified that if the anganwadi centers are closed due to early summer vacations, arrangements will be made to deliver students’ rations to their homes.
