Police in Brajarajnagar have successfully dismantled an illegal firearms syndicate, arresting three individuals and presenting them in court on Tuesday. The suspects are Banti Prasad, Vishal Bag, and Santosh Khedkar, all residents of the OPM area within the Brajarajnagar police jurisdiction in Jharsuguda district. Authorities recovered five country-made pistols and 30 rounds of ammunition from their possession.
Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police Gundala Reddy Raghavendra stated during a press conference that Banti Prasad had procured illegal firearms from outside the state and sold them to two individuals while planning further transactions. Acting on intelligence reports, the Brajarajnagar police, led by Inspector-In-Charge Dhabaleswar Sahu and supported by sub-inspectors Prabhakar Patra, Abhaya Mohanty, and Purnima Oram, conducted raids on Monday night.
The operation began with the detention of Vishal Bag, from whom two country-made guns were recovered. Following his interrogation, Santosh Khedkar was arrested, leading to the seizure of two additional firearms. Subsequently, Banti Prasad was apprehended, and another country-made pistol was found in his possession. A case (95/26) has been filed at the Brajarajnagar police station.
