Odisha's Special Intelligence Wing Requests CRPF and BSF to Locate Looted Firearms

The Special Intelligence Wing (SIW) of Odisha Police has contacted the Inspector General of the CRPF and the Inspector General of the BSF in Odisha, seeking verification and information regarding 29 firearms that were looted by Left Wing Extremists (Naxals) in Malkangiri district several years ago.

In an official letter dated May 11, 2026, the Deputy Inspector General of Police for the SIW requested both central armed police forces to verify the weapons they have recovered and to share any details that may correspond to the looted arms from incidents in 1992 and 2001.

The letter notes that the Commandants of the OSAP 2nd Battalion in Jharsuguda and the OSAP 3rd Battalion in Koraput had previously reported the theft of these 29 weapons during Naxal-related events in Malkangiri.

The SIW has urged the CRPF and BSF to meticulously verify the weapons recovered during their anti-Naxal operations and encounters over the years, and to promptly inform the Odisha Police if any matches are discovered.

“Hence, you are requested to verify the weapons recovered by your units during any incidents and share the details about the matched firearms to get back the back tracked weapons,” the letter stated.
